Home-Made Energy
Energy independence starts with living in sustainable ways. There are tons of innovations popping up all over the world which are all going to play a factor in the average Joe starting to pay himself by producing his own energy. Check out this list of easy projects you can do to start producing your own power and even selling it to the grid!
Use Solar Panels
The solar cell industry is a continuously growing and will continue to grow at an exponential rate. Scientists are currently locked into a race to find more efficient and inexpensive materials to construct solar panels. Although the technology is only around a twenty percent efficiency rating, that doesn't mean you can't begin to use the sun now to power your way to energy independence!
Solar panels are really just one facet of the growing technologies that convert sun power into energy you can use. For example, solar panels are used to heat hot water tanks and even cook food in specially designed solar ovens!
Wind Power Generation
Often times wind conditions are great for local farms and can even be great for suburbia. The main factor is how high you can get with a wind turbine. I was amazed at the first wind turbine that I ever built. It was actually quite efficient. My son and I followed these plans and were able to make a fun father and son project and do something for the environment at the same time! Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
Societies are tasked with inventing a streamlined process to reduce our waste, recycle precious resources, and find a method to reuse goods. There have been several technologies in the design and development process including MERFs (Material Recycling Facilities), gasification, and multiple recycling incentive programs. Until our institutions can decide on which technology is best fit to handle our waste requirements in an environmentally friendly way, we are left to our own devices. So not only should we be concerned with becoming energy independent by producing home-made energy, but we should continually look to educate ourselves on ways we can reduce our wastes.
